Cody Janssen at the young age of 19, has been racing for the majority of his life. He started as a youth flat track racer in the state of Wisconsin when he was 6 years old. He raced the Pee Wee Stock classes for a few years and won every championship he entered in the class. But the AMA would put a stop to youth ATVs in Wisconsin for a few years and this spelled the end of Cody’s flat track career.
When the AMA stopped youth ATV racing, Cody decided to take his talents to flat track dirt bikes. He raced for about a half of a season before deciding that it wasn’t for him. His racing was temoprarily put on hold. In the spring of 2003 he decided he wanted to try something new, motocross. He stepped right in and started turning heads. In the 2003 season he won every race he entered in the 90 mod class.
2004 was a pedestrian-like season for Janssen, but turned in around in 2005 when he got his first 450. At the age of 12 he won nearly every C class race that he entered. He also won the WATVMX C Class Championship. Even though 2005 was a good season, 2006 was the first breakout season for Cody. He won every moto he entered in the B class racking up a record of 88-0. He naturally won the WATVMX championships in the 300 and Production B classes. In August of 2006, he had every championship locked up so he stepped up to the A class for the last month or two of the season. He ended up winning all his A motos that fall as well. Cody’s first undefeated season was complete.
2007 was a season of biggest and better things. WPSA was the place to be in 2007, and Cody Janssen made his presents known. He raced the Production Lites Class on his Janssen Motorsports 300ex. After a long season competing against riders like Jeffrey Rastrelli, Mark Madl, Jason Connell, and Neal McGrath, Cody as crowned National Champion. This was the greatest year of Cody’s Career as he also won many prestegious races on the 450 locally in the A class too.
Since that National Championship-winning year Cody has only attended a hand full of nationals each season. He has made them count as he has won 5 16-24 national overalls and8 450A and ProductionA national overalls, as well as a top 10 in Pro Am Unlimited in his only start in the class. But injuries haven’t helped the last few years. He is also in the midst of his 3rd straight undefeated season locally.
Cody continues to impress and improve. He is a local hero, but that’s not enough for him. He wants to be a Pro Am National Champion, a Pro Champion, and at the end of the day a household name. Cody insists that he’s just getting started…
